audition for a play

The guy I’ve been dating took me to a cast party for a play he was in recently. I got to meet the director and a bunch of the actors and they all seemed very warm and open and looked forward to seeing me at the auditions coming up over the next few months!

I am going to check out a play at a small theatre company in the next couple of weeks to get a feel for their productions – I have a friend who is a friend of one of the leads in an upcoming production of Fiddler on the Roof. I also put their upcoming open auditions on my calendar so it will be staring me in the face so I can’t ignore it.

I need to have 16 bars of a Broadway song to sing. I can sing soprano and mezzo-soprano. I’ve done alto before, but it isn’t my preferred part. I’d better hit the music store and find something that suits me well. The audition is for Ain’t Misbehavin’, which I know NOTHING about.

One of the admin assistants at my company’s other office saw me at our christmas party last night and she’s big on theatre (she even won an Elly award for best supporting actress!) and she just kept telling me “they are WAITING for you to come down there and audition!” I guess I just don’t know where to start sometimes, but she told me to get a one minute monologue and a one minute song prepared. And she said if I am still nervous about it – just go and watch the auditions to see what they are all about. She going to be sending me check up emails in the coming weeks. I think it is good to have a support group!
