I decided to drag my dusty Casio electronic keyboard out of the closet last night and find a corner to set it up in my office at home. Then I rummaged through my bookshelves and found my Older Beginner Piano Course book (level 1) and turned to the back thinking I could just sit down and play like I used to. But then reality struck – was that a C or an F? Where are my fingers supposed to go? How exactly am I supposed to count and read music at the same time? So I went back to the beginning – back to the basic fingering and chords to work my way back up to where I used to be.
I’m not sure why I ever put the keyboard away in the closet – I know it just doesn’t have the same feel as a REAL piano, but I think that it needs to be out there so I have a constant reminder that I need to sit down and practice and that the real piano will come in time and that when I do finally have a real piano to call my own, I’ll be able to play beautifully on it.
