Komen Race for the Cure
In 1997, my dad’s cousin Roberta died of breast cancer. She was the first person I was close to that died. I know that if she would have been treated sooner that she may have been a survivor of this terrible disease. So, I’m going to run this one in her memory. She was a special family member who always remembered to send me birthday cards and always showed up to the family functions (albeit late – we always joked about her inability to show up places on time). The last time I saw her alive I knew it was because she was making her rounds to see everyone to say goodbye while she was in good enough health to get around. She was wearing her wig and she came over to our house just like she was stopping in and sat and played with some kittens we had and just gave us all a good lasting memory of her last few months alive. Even after 10 years she still has a special place in my heart and so this May, I’m going to run this race for her.
