get my license

Whew! So I went last Thursday morning to take the test and very long story short I waited forever at the DMV only to FAIL the first time. O_O I missed a stopsign as I was coming out of the lot; it’s a rather weird traffic situation there and I didn’t FULLY stop so the test administrator stopped the test there and said because of that, that was an automatic fail. :(

BUT!

I went back on Saturday, didn’t miss that sign, had a great smooth testing, and PASSED! The test administrator even complimented me on my driving, saying I am a very good driver, and she liked that I was patient and cautious and wished me the best of luck. It feels so good to finally have my license! This week I’m going car shopping, and better yet—my Dad’s paying! Yay for cashing in on college graduation gifts a year later… :)

I’ve been practicing a lot with my Dad, and on the days the guy I commute with can’t take me to work Dad’s let me drive to work for practice… The morning commute is pretty crazy (ugh, traffic) but I’ve gotten a lot more comfortable on the highway. And here comes the BIG NEWS: I am going to the DMV TOMORROW MORNING to take the road test! Wish me luck, everyone! If all goes well, I’ll be car shopping this weekend!! :D

Severe thunderstorms in the area so we cancelled for the time being… Maybe I’ll go driving later with dad if I don’t get to meet with the instructor today. Darn darn darn.

I’ve been out practicing with my Dad a lot, and I think I’ve been making some progress. I am starting to notice specific weaknesses though, which is good since now I know what to work on. Also, last week I called a bunch of driving schools in my area and found an instructor that will be able to help me work on the stuff Dad doesn’t remember to go over with me. I’m meeting with him for the first time TOMORROW MORNING! Wish me luck! :o)

I’ve been out driving for 1.5+ hours last night and this evening after getting home from work. Dad says I have a lot more confidence than I used to and says I’m doing a lot better. There are still things I have to work on, and I’m a long ways away from being REALLY confident on the road, but it feels AWESOME to really be working on this and making progress. I’m not ready to make this my 43things CHALLENGE, but I think that at the rate things are going I can probably get my license sometime next month!

I never really needed it in high school (plus was too busy with classes and clubs to go practice driving much) and in college having a car was pointless (expensive to park and there was a great bus system) so I never got my license when I was younger. Man, do I regret it! My lack of independence now that I’m in the working world has made it harde to find a job and has caused problems with my relationship with my boyfriend… so I really REALLY need to GET ON THIS. It’s not that I don’t know how to drive, I’m just a little out of practice and I don’t yet have the confidence I think I’ll need to take the test. Please friends, harass me and make sure I get out twice a week to practice driving! At LEAST twice!
