Fast Food Nation R Us! 23 months ago

It’s time to revisit my goal of staying away from fast food restaurants, methinks.

A particularly disastrous outing to Wendy’s today has precipitated this particular “never again” moment. Nasty, NASTY food. Yuck. Happily, the sick feeling is staying with me to make me remember why I gave this crap up in the first place.

So, no more fast food—with the exception of lowfat Subway (hey a guy’s gotta eat something).

Wish me luck.

Three months and counting . . . 3 years ago

It’s been three months and six days since my last visit to a fast food restaurant!

Coming up on two months 4 years ago

It’s been nearly two months since my last visit to a national fast food chain restaurant. I think I’ve made not going to these places a habit, which I’m glad about.

I suppose I’m lucky to live in New York City where delis and local sandwich shops abound. It’s pretty easy to rustle up a meal without resorting to McDonald’s or Burger King. It would be a lot harder if I lived in a town in which the fast food places had pushed all the little restaurants out of business with their merciless efficiency.

The best thing about this, aside from avoiding the awful, sick feeling that most fast food leaves you with, is that I feel like I’m putting my ethics in action. Having read Fast Food Nation , it’s nice to know that I’m not supporting the things that these companies engage in and the effects that they have on people, the economy and the environment.

On an unrelated note—does anyone know how they’re making a movie of Fast Food Nation ? IMDB says it’s a “thriller,” not a “documentary.” What gives?

Success! 4 years ago

30 days without setting foot in a fast food restaurant! Yippee!

THIS is PROGRESS? 4 years ago

Hmmmm….interesting day yesterday. I had to be somewhere in the evening, and found myself with 45 minutes between work and my evening engagement in which to eat dinner. So I’m heading for Wendy’s, all on auto-pilot and whatnot, and then I remember my no fast food pledge, Day 25, and DAMMIT. So I went across the street to the decidedly non-national fast food chain Shake Shack in Madison Square Park.

For a Hot Fudge Sundae. For dinner. sigh

Twenty Days 4 years ago

It’s been twenty days since visiting a national fast food chain. I don’t miss it.

Let's try this one next . . . 4 years ago

So, I just went SIX MONTHS flossing every day. Yay me!

The last Fast Food I had was Sunday. Burger King. Blech.

So, my first day without fast food is October 3, 2005. Let’s see if I can do this for thirty days. Or not do it, I guess (I feel like Morgan Spurlock!)

My definition of success: No fast food from major national chains for 30 days.

Let’s see how this goes…

This is HARD 4 years ago

Gak…this stuff is everywhere, and it’s so cheap and convenient. I need to rewatch “Super Size Me” and re-read “Fast Food Nation,” especially the latter.

Fast Food is SO bad for me. This is my new mantra.
