Move to Texas

Austin Texas is fast becoming movie central. There are a ton of casting calls, mostly for indie or independent films, but you gotta start somewhere! (look how far “Napoleon Dynamite” made it as an indie film!) Also you don’t have to be a SAG member to work in Texas. Take classes, network and audition, audition, audition. Try out even for stuff you don’t think is good, just for the experiences. ALWAYS stay true to yourself, your values and morals and NEVER do anything you aren’t comfortable doing…I promise that even in this business people will respect you for it.

Go to Texas

I have lived in a tiny town in Southwest Texas for the last few years. I used to live in NY and never got an opportunity, but have been in two films here in Texas. Austin is really the city to go to if you want film work…it is really growing and is still in some of the young stages…and you don’t have to be a SAG member to work in Texas. I was only an extra, but was “featured” in “The Man Who Came Back” with Eric Braeden, George Kennedy, Armande Asante, James P. Stuart and Billy Zane. It was even better than I ever imagined in all of my years of dreaming of film. The director, Glen Pitre was awesome and a joy to work for. I got hooked immediately. I then went to a casting call for “Javelina.” I also got an extra part and also may be “featured.” The director was Barry Tubb, Wolfman from Top Gun and one of the castmembers was Kate O’Toole, Peter O’Toole’s daughter. I am a lucky girl to have met and worked with such talented people. I know I should be greatful, and I am, but I am also very greedy and want MORE MORE MORE MORE MORE MOVIES! I am moving to Tokyo with my husband’s job…oh I hope there are more crazy wild exciting opportunities there for me too!
