Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

When something...

is called to your attention, the perceptive person would take action that is along accepted lines.
Oh, and I have.
Things in order of done today…
1. See doctor.
2. Emissions test
3. A fast drive to motor vehicle to renew 2 vehicles license plates.
4. Another drive to another doctors office.
5. Quick stop at pharmacy
6. Quicker stop at post office.
7. Head for Home.

2 of these are quite important. But both of them will not be identified.

Possibilities...

Decisions made and stood by.
Conscience.
The consideration of what I can live with
pertaining to right vs. wrong.
Make no mistake.
Some of my decisions affect others.
I have to accept the consequences
pro and con.
Second parties have been involved in the aftermath
of debates.
So many scenarios possible.
Boiled down to one outcome.
Acceptance is not my ultimate goal or concern.
Understanding will suffice. So Far, so good…

Fail...

but no fear.
Fuck fear…

I...

continue.
Forward.
Every day I compete complete.
And do the best I can
within my limitations and
try to solve
those
mysterious
problems.
Who knows what
lies around
the
next
corner?...

No pain
No Gain
In order to succeed you must try
And you cannot win if you don’t play the game

A monument...

to the ability to try…
The expansion of The Denver And South Park railroad…
a huge endeavor…and pictures do not do it justice.
I have stood at the foot of this massive and unfinished rock wall
I felt like a small dust speck.
It is huge.
Never finished because the railroad folded…
Leaving the history seekers to explore the possibilities…

Great Wall

Even though this Palisade was never completed, it still is an amazing structure and represents the end of an era for the Denver South Park and Pacific Railroad who dreamed of building a railway over Ohio Pass down to the North Fork of the Gunnison River and on to California.

This Palisade was built by Italian Stone Masons brought over specifically for this job from Italy as masons from this country were not capable of doing the work. This Palisade is almost impossible to see from the Ohio Pass Road even though it is close to the road.

An interpretive sign has been placed at this site.

Back against the wall.
What the fuck just happened?
(Don’t you cry)
We’ve been here before,
Bring it on, taking action.
(No more lies)
I’m not gunna blame this on you,
I know I gave it all I got.
No I’m not gunna blame this on you,
I tell you that it’s not your fault.
But honestly, you’re killing me,
Sick of us wasting time.
I took your heart, tore it apart,
Watching us die tonight.
Take me for a fool,
What the hell were you thinking?
(All this time)
Now I have to choose,
‘Cause I’m done, no more faking.
(Let me out)
I’m not gunna blame this on you,
I know I gave it all I got.
No I’m not gunna blame this on you,
I tell you that it’s not your fault.
But honestly, you’re killing me,
Sick of us wasting time.
I took your heart, tore it apart,
Watching us die tonight.
Everything will be alright,
I’m watching us die tonight.
Everything will be alright,
I’m watching us die tonight.
I’m not gunna blame this on you,
I know I gave it all I got.
No I’m not gunna blame this on you,
I tell you that it’s not your fault.
But honestly, you’re killing me,
Sick of us wasting time.
I took your heart, tore it apart,
Watching us die tonight.

Trying...

Is the basis of living…the effort can be rewarded with a prize or hurt…lessons learned and footsteps taken more carefully…but the highs that can be felt naturally can compare to nothing…I’ve learned and grown, felt heartache and euphoria…I wouldn’t change for anything…

The desire to...

to succeed may cause a person to take risks in their emotional life
that may cause some pain when one wipes out…

The thrill of adrenaline and the agony of thats the way the cookie crumbles all wrapped together in one nice meal with some leftovers for the next day, week and month…

So what...

You’ll take some hits

The result is so worth it…
