Friends indeed...

Out front, we have perhaps 35 different varieties of Sempervivum.
They are mostly just random ones.
Out back and downstairs, another story. We have more than 100 named varieties.
With more coming.
We hope to raise many generations of new plants.

The most recent thing...

Is Sempervivums.
Cold hardy
100’s of varieties.
And so, we have acquired some.
Around 100 + different kinds
And we shall propagate and nurture said plants.
there is room here.
And interest to have as many as we can possibly grow.

Who knows how many will be invited?...

Friday March 25th.
Setup for the CCSS annual show and sale at the Denver Botanic Gardens starting at 9AM. Those that volunteer for 6 hours working get 40% off on all purchases for the duration of the show. PLUS, we shop Friday night after everything is set up, before it opens to the public :).
Yes, I will be there all day and all day Saturday…

My first power bill since the Grow Light installation...

Not quite an entire billing cycle.
232 Kilowatt hours above my last years November usage.
Roughly $16.24 more than last year.
Not too painful for the good it has done.
Tylecodon is a species that grows in the winter.
I have 12 of them in a few different species.
They have all emerged with new growth in an explosion the last 3 weeks.
One of them has never gotten leaves on it during the almost 2 seasons I’ve owned it.
And it has great bunches of leaves sprouting…

A few weeks ago...

Someone contacted Adrienne about donating the plants they had to someone who would love them. Individuals or a club.
She didn’t think much of it at the time.
Then they contacted her again and explained a bit more. I told Adrienne they could have gotten her e mail and phone number from our club website since she is Treasurer.
So she called and spoke with Bob, the man in question.
And today at 10 AM we went to meet these people and adopt whatever he would part with.
They were such nice people and we had so much in common. When we finally went in to meet the plants, we couldn’t believe our eyes.
From small to huge, from common to rare.
We talked of our collections and experiences with the world of plant obsession…
They were such nice people and we may have made some new friends!
We decided who would keep what, and we will donate some to the club.
I lined up my new family members and hade a group photo!...

Soon...

A Commiphora Eminii will join my stable of plants and friends.
Someone special who knows what I like purchased it for me.
The picture may not do it justice.
2 feet tall with peeling bark like so many Commiphara’s…

I guess I have a hobby
or obsession…

Uncarina roeoesliana...

A small succulent tree / shrub from Madagascar
That blooms with yellow flowers.
I have 2 different varieties.
I had 3 but one didn’t survive the Whitefly attacks of last summer.
I have formidable weapons this year.

A photo...

showing the entire subject named in the last entry.
Adding the perspective to imagine the scene.

Pelargonium Carnosum...

A member of the geranium family
These flowers are minuscule.
Taken time lapse so the flash wouldn’t wash out the subject…
Plus, they are dormant in the summer.
Growing fall, winter and spring…

I had asked for the day...

off for Monday last week, knowing I would be beat.
When my supervisor called and told me I could, I went back to bed until noon
