You get what you focus on....

finally a showcase moment…my bosses and every peer in the company was there. I didnt expect it to happen this way. We had a leadership summit for 2 days off site – there was a speaker she was very good and the message was how much time do you spend Coaching for Success, coaching for improvement or Managing chronic issues? this came to me so easily – and i was actually called to say my answer with the microphone again because it was the best answer she has ever heard. All I said was the truth and the way I manage my excellent team. I said “It is the 80/20 rule. 80 % of the time I am coaching for success and while I do this I am focussing on what I want to see from my team. I am building thier confidence. You get what you focus on…if you focus on the bad ou will see all thier little shortcomings…dont blur the picture – I put a 10 above everyones head and they feel this support. WHich in turn encourages them to come back for more of that positive feeling – when the are meeting or exceeding my expectations they are proud, they want to work hard and have my recognition of that.” Small successes or large. My team has all moved ahead in thier positions with my guidance – I also have the best retention. I was so proud to have a great team to talk about…but then realize it does have alot to do with me.

Today I was inpired lead and motivated by my son.

So, in some ways I can see how his dad and I have impacted him. Today me having my moment of temparary insanity with my ex – in a parking lot with people around….small meltdown…it happens, trying to keep my cool but losing it just the same…funny how 1 man in my life can still do this to me (and its all about pick up and drop offs for the kids). So we leave and go our separate ways…Im fuming and tears are starting to well in my eyes, my thoughts are scattered and Im about to drive away with my son in the passenger seat. He is leaving with my daughter. Before we even get out of the parking lot my son asks me to play the Game of Life with him…(ipod version) he will do all the work…i just get to make the decisions. I agreed but not wanting to – I would have rather had my brain fixated on running through the argument which just happened…After the 25 minute drive home and lots of communication back and forth with my 10 year old (wise beyond his years son) I realized he did this to take my mind off of the argument. And it really worked…I also noticed that before I saw the ex everything was going well, felt good, see him it went downhill, then as I got away from him…I felt better. He is like a bad type of cryptonite. My son is amazing! and I hope he knows it!

Lately Ive noticed a few 43'ers who have adopted some of my

goals, this was really cool to see because they were very specific goals that others didnt have listed…now I can see thier progress with same. thank you and good luck “living well is the best revenge and sometimes just not give a F**K!”

Have had a couple of weeks here where Ive lead my team through

the dismissal of some of their peers. I had to terminate some staff this week and keep the balance of maintaining morale while the work was distributed out to the remaining staff. I did get feedback on this from one of my peers that I was being watched by everyone and while everyone knew this was a difficult and stressful time I handled it with grace and calmness. I am glad that others witness this and let me know how much they watch me as they value how I handle situations so they can do same someday. Thank you M for telling me.

If you are a life coach / motivational speaker or are working towards being one...

Would you share with me where you started on this path? Thank you!

Dont think for a moment that anything you do is inconsequential.

Everything is Significant. Its what you do when no one else is watching, it how you carry yourself especially through the difficult times and through the blunders. Head High, Posture, SMILE, Only say things that build others up. I was lead by a great man who I consider my mentor…I strive to be as great a leader as he was to me, and I have heard feedback from people that I am inspiring them, I am looked up to and a good role model. Thank you God for giving me the grace to do such work.
