Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

2014 update

Nothing has really changed since the 2013 update. I’m busy and that is good. I did actually COMPLETE 2013’s goal, which is a first.

2007: Astronomy: Galileo System of the world: made some progress. made it to page 250, but nothing this year so far.
2008: French Language: still have barely done anything with this. will focus on Astronomy, until fall. then I will work on this
2009: Peru: still need to read through the Peru Wildlife book. Probably not gonna happen this year.
2010: Bread: Made some bread. In fact, most of our bread has been home made since this time last year. soda bread and whole wheat when it is warm enough for the yeast. read the entire wiki on bread (including specific type links) and am reading a book about the history of bread from google books. When I finish that, this is done.
2011: wound up being a year to learn about home. Made a 9 page list of things I may want to do or see. I still have almost 6 whole pages to do. so, I will keep working until the list is done, which may take a few more years.
2012: Environmental reading: read about 3 books on this in 2012. I want to read a lot more than that… so, I’ll keep this until I’ve read 20. That is high yeah… so 1. Animal Vegetable Miracle 2. Omnivore’s Dilemma 3. Beyond Growth 4. Hot Flat and Crowded
2013: Rag Rugs – made one from my own rag/old clothing, tried to find out about history etc, but there really wan’t much dedicated to this. – complete
2014: Greece – I have long loved ancient history, and we are planning a trip there this summer. I want to study up on history and language. I’d like to have a good grasp on the alphabet, and how to sound out words, plus learn a few common phrases.

2013: This year I need to choose something very small and completeable as my list is getting out of hand (and I have a lot of work to do with school where I am learning so much anyway. so… hmm… I have a lot of extra material and want to make a rag rug, so this year I will learn about rag rugs. How to make them and history/fun facts. yeah, that should be doable.
