20 -- The Disappeared 1 week ago

I don’t know why I requested this book from the library but it was a great, easy read. hmmm… then again are books about Pol Pot supposed to be easy—it was informative and insightful.

took it off and put it back on 1 week ago

I was really busy so I “gave up” on this goal. I had challenged myself to complete by the end of the year or donate $150 to children’s literacy programs.

So when I gave up, I tried to find some children’s literacy programs to donate to—and couldn’t.

They were doing a big food drive for the food bank in my city because hey, people are out of work and hungry. They were talking about how many children go hungry every day. I thought that having food would probably help children read because hey, everyone needs food to concentrate.

then I finished another book and realize that I probably could finish this goal in the end. So I’ve readded it and $75 is on the line for completion.

I’m reading superfreakonomics and what the dog saw—both really fun books as well as “the disappeared”.

19 -- Never let me go 2 weeks ago

Wow, like Remains of the Day mixed with science fiction. I read till the end, but I guessed the surprise twist in the first chapter. Not worth it.

18 -- Magic Pudding 1 month ago

This is a child’s book, but it was long and apparently a classic of children’s literature. Maybe you need to be a child to enjoy?

17- The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher 1 month ago

This was the story of the first real life Victorian detective, what Sherlock Holmes et al was based on. I hoped it would be more fictionalized—rather than all the facts of the first popular case talked about again and again…

16 -- The Woman on the Bus 2 months ago

I had this odd feeling of deja vu—like I’d read this before. But I haven’t, I’ve just read all the plot twists so often I knew what was going to happen.

15 -- Gertrude 2 months ago

Saw this on the “Nobel Lauretes” table and picked up Hermen Hesse’s book. Loved it. A nice little German story.

14 -- On Writing 2 months ago

Another great book down—Thanks Stephen King and ready to start Herman Hesse’s Gertrude. I was REALLY worried about this goal, but I’ve started to enjoy reading instead of watching re-runs. Be scared cable company, be very scared…

13 -- Balzac and the little Chinese Seamstress 2 months ago

Fantastic. I loved the movie, but love the book (especially the ending) even more. What a beautiful way to immerse yourself somewhere else…
