learn to speak italian

The teaching-myself plan hasn’t worked out in the long run. There are too many distractions and its hard to stick with something without a concrete deadline (e.g., a trip to Italy in the future, which is still a long long way away).

I’m going to Mexico for fieldwork in a few months, so I’ll mostly be practicing Spanish. This means I probably won’t make a lot of direct progress on this goal for a while. But I’m not giving up!

I’ve been learning to speak phrases. My boyfriend and I are trying the pimsleur italian language CDs. They really emphasize speaking in short conversations, repeating the words and working on pronounciation. I feel like I’ve already learned a lot, but it’s kind of frustrating not knowing how anything is spelled.
