So, we used credit cards to pay for Christmas. It was our only option, and I won’t shortchange this holiday. We’ll have to pay aggressively to make up for it.
Update on totals to come. I’m a little scared… but, it’ll be okay.

after talking with hubby, decided to take a different approach with this—we’re going to pay the minimum rounded up to the nearest ten dollars, and put the ‘extra’ I’ve been paying into savings instead via direct deposit. Then once the balance is low enough and our savings is high enough- we’ll just pay it off.
I’ll continue to update this goal here, though, because the balance will continue to go down- just slower is all. But, the goal is that we’ll have a nest egg for when we need it and a little wiggle room in our budget.
I just paid on the smaller of the two cards, and here’s the breakdown.
card 1: $138.63 left (give or take)
card 2: $2898.45 left (give or take) <—will pay on it by 21st
total: $3037.08
It’s actually $3054 (hubby ‘needed’ to use it for props/costumes or something for the Lights of Broadway)... so, some of that will come back to us, but we’re saddled with it for the time being.
Will get back out of the $3000’s this month.
Yay! I just made an early payment on the credit card because I can and I want to make progress!
Paid $350 (but, with fees deducted, it’s as if I paid $338.67)
so, our new total is about:
$2,971.45
Time to update my wealth goal!
Trying to make sure we don’t run out of money for the summer, so I’ll be more bold once we start getting Jason’s pay again.
I paid $80, so the new balance should be (roughly):
$3299
This goal is 30% done.
I just temporarily withdrew funds from Kiva, so that I could eventually withdraw money from Paypal in order to make a larger credit card payment. It takes 1-3 weeks to transfer, so it’ll count toward August’s payment. But, right now I have about $25 that I could withdraw from Paypal if I wanted to. I may just let it build up and make August’s payment bigger instead of July’s because it’s almost time to pay again.
I was eager to make more progress, so I already made my July payment of $275. I will use a conservative figure for now, and say that we’re now at $3400.
Will update if I see a different balance listed there in a couple days.
Even though the bill said that nothing was due at this time, I am no sucker- I am PAYING on it EVERY month!
So, for now, I only put $260 on it, knowing that next month I very well could put way more down on it.
So, we’ll be conservative here, and say that the balance is now down to: $3650.00
I just need a windfall of unexpected money so I can pay this off by the end of 2009 as I planned. At this rate, I’d be lucky to cut it in half by the end of the year, but I am determined that it CAN be done!
I actually got a new statement, and the current balance is lower than I calculated (always good!):
Current total: $3900.64
I won’t be able to pay on it just yet, but soon I will put $275 or so on it. I’d planned on putting more on it, but we had some unexpected expenses come up.
