I did this for a week, and it was way easier than I thought and taught me some things about how sugar makes me feel. If I can notice that on the short term, that really tells me something!
I think I’ve made some majorly healthy changes and I’ve learned to moderate my sugar a lot better now.

I’m now on day 6 of 7. It has been WAY easier than I thought it would be. And, I’ve learned a lot from this, too! Like the fact that I don’t crave food constantly when I’m avoiding sugar (even though I’m still getting ‘sugars’ in my system with the natural substitutions I’m making (maple syrup, honey, and Coconut crystals, for example) I don’t experience the highs and lows that are the glycemic response. That is awesome! And, I wish I had weighed myself at the beginning so I could compare at the end, but I know it has got to have a positive impact on my weight, too. I’ll likely keep up with a lot of my newfound habits on a daily basis, but once my fast is done, I will allow myself occasional treats.

Day 4 and going strong! I allowed myself some dark chocolate today- yum!
Coconut Sugar crystals have arrived! Will test them out tomorrow in my homemade granola.

I’m on day 3 and I find that I am not constantly wanting to shove food in my mouth now that I’ve cut out the sugar! I do still have the occasional ‘sweet’ but it’s much healthier now:
real maple syrup in my coffee instead of processed white sugar
occasional homemade granola, which currently contains brown sugar, but it’s not a lot and it has so many other health benefits, plus I am going to tweak the recipe soon and see how that goes!
Fruit is helping me, too, with providing some natural sweetness. :)

Being that it’s Lent, I’m ready to do this! I enjoyed a few treats last night (in moderation) to prepare for my ‘no processed sugars fast’.
Now, I’m not sure how far I’m going to take this- it’s a work in progress, but you can’t be TOO extreme on this (unless you start making people around you crazy in the process, which I don’t plan on doing!) For at least the next 5 days, I plan on avoiding all processed sweets, white table sugar, brown sugar, Karo syrup, powdered sugar, etc. Homemade desserts would be acceptable if the only sweeteners were any of the following: sugar in the raw, agave, honey, real maple syrup, or my newly found coconut sugar crystals. (Waiting on the coconut sugar to arrive from Amazon! Can’t wait to try it!)
