As a professional musician a lot of my time is devoted to my own individual practice. Lately I’ve been dropping the ball a little. Instead of diligently practicing and taking things apart until I can play them absolutely perfectly, I doodle. I’ll sit there and run through things (unless they’re hard, in which case I skip them) or just plunk on the piano rather than do my scales and long tones. In the last few days though, I’ve found my stride and things are falling into place. You’d be so surprised with the results. Things I thought I’d never be able to do seem easy and everything is becoming more efficient every day. I don’t know if this would work well for everyone, or in every situation, but I guess my point is that once you start, its worth it. Keep it up.
