Came in thirteenth in the NEFA points standing, for New England Amateurs over 40, and eighth in the finals tournament. Check out my stuff at http://wisdomtales.com/discgolf/ There you can see all the places I finished in different events.

Since I have not been working but only actively seeking work I have had more time to pursue disc golf. I can’t say if it is making me better but I have loved the rounds I am getting in. I set a new record with over 80 rounds this year adn it is possible I will reach 100 before the year is over.
I have slowly been putting together a site on it.

Sister Lee , daughter Joy and I played in the Pokerpalooza tourney yesterday at Borderland State Park in Easton/Sharon MA. Joy came in second in the Recreation division, Lee second in the am women and I 8th in the Adv Masters. It was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the low 80s and just a hint of a breeze. The event was a mix of disc golf, two round and then some card games mixed in between holes. At the end winners of the golf were invited to a Texas Holdem cards event that went on into the night
We played a long round with the girls playing a 7000 foot blue tees to white baskets course while the rest of us played the longest course in New England a 8585 foot monster blue to blue. It includes a 910 foot second hole. I have been practicing this for about a month but on did not have a great game on this day. I had been averaging about a 72 on the par 68 but during the tournament I shot a 78 putting me out of it. Then everyone played the short white to white course 5080 feet and I had a great 52 -2 under par. Joy shot a 76 and a 75 while Lee had a 79 and a 69. Great day with a great theme and discs and tee shirts for all.
Played in this tournament on Saturday(last). Arm still really bothering me but since it was a short course I was able to get through it with a bit of pain instead of a lot. Joy came in second in the am ladies division while I finished 3rd in the ad masters. Played well in the second round after having a +6 60 in the first round I got a -3 51 in the 2nd. No play this week while I ice and hope to have the arm in shape for the Pokerpalooza event happening this coming Saturday at the Borderland State Park in Easton MA. This is my home course so if I am going to make any hay this season it will be there.
I got laid off last week so used the time to play a lot more disc golf. Had a best on the short course at Borderland State Park in Easton/Sharon MA. 47 beating my old best of 49. Very excellent day playing with Ranger Dave on his lunch break. It was good to have a witness.
I Played with my daughter Joy yesterday but I pulled something in my deltoid and will be on the shelf until the Terrace Pines Open in Ossippee NH happening on Saturday.
Played at the pyramids for the first time yesterday. It was about 90 degrees and muggy but my sister Lee and I went out the 1:15 drive and got a round in. The real purpose of the trip is that they sell discs in the store out there and Lee needed the discs for a coming tournament. The course is a beauty with a lot of climbing up and down hills. I shot a 68 and Lee a 83 on the par 63 course. Dripping wet when we finished and it was great that Jason Southwick Opened the store for us past hours. if you are going to suupport a truly committed Disc golf pro Jason is the guy. Check out his course and store at http://marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/default.asp
I was up in North calais VT this weekend playing in the State disc golf tourney. A beautiful course in the forests and fields of Vermont. I play advance amster and came in 6th of 11 positions, not bad as I am often near the bottom. Great place!
It is a good long drive across Pennsylvania, we left on Thursday night drive from home about 6 or so hours to Wilkes Barre PA. Stayed the night at the dumpy yet somehow charming Days Inn. The next day we drove the rest of the way to Pittsburgh stopping @ Moraine State Park about 35 miles north of the city to collect information on the Disc Golf course there. We stayed at the Hilton in downtown Pittsburgh right across from Fort Pitt park at the tip of where two of the rivers meet. Nice hotel with valet parking that was too expensive and a resturant that was pricey but all in all it was fine, I am becoming such a penny pincher about some things, yet I can still drop $60 on discs everry few months. On Friday Elisa went about the meet and greet of the National Storytelling Conference, she was presenting on the subject of her book, bullying. You can get the book at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1892056445/sr=8-2/qid=1153826390/ref=sr_1_2/102-2721732-0384927?ie=UTF8 Once Upon a Time…Storytelling to Teach Character and Prevent Bullying
We checked out the dispplay of this book and her other in the conference bookstore. It was the first night and already she had sold half the 40 books she sent to the store. Her first book was sold out 25 copies, becoming very popular it is! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0829812865/sr=8-1/qid=1153826390/ref=sr_1_1/102-2721732-0384927?ie=UTF8
Doorways to the Soul : 52 Wisdomtales from Around the World It is very reasonably priced and makes a great gift..Plug plug plug…..
We went out to the Fanuel Hall of Pittsburgh, something…Station but were not particularly impressed. View of Heinze Field was pretty cool.
After a good nights sleep Saturday was filled with Disc golf. While Elisa did her conference thing Joy and I drove up to Moraine http://www.pfds.org/course_moraine.html to play a round. It was wet with passing showers in the morning but we were both really looking forward to a round. Moraine is when you play the long tees is a 1000 rated course and when you play the middle layout a 900 rated course. To those less informed on ratings this means it is one hard freaking place to play and you really have to be on your game. Joy played the middle while I attempted to play the long. After a bogey on 1, missed an easy 15 foot putt I birdied 2 and was feeling pretty good. Unfortunately my game is not up to the 1000 rating and bogies and doubles were to fill my morning. We played and were joyed and frustrated while loving the well laid out and challenging couse and when the round was over on the Par 66 course I had an 84 while Joy was not thrilled with her 105. Still it is an amazingly beautiful place with a challenges for all types of games. It was about 11:30 when we finish so we grabbed a bite at the concession stand and as the sky showed the first threads of sun we ate and watched the swimmers. Off we went to or second round of the day, Knob Hill Park. http://www.pfds.org/course_knob.html
This is a lovely park and the Disc golf is wonderfully laid out over a big hill. Joy played the 4780 foot shorter course while I again tried my luck on the longer 6615 foot version. Lots of open fairways but stil a challenging place to play. I threw a 74 but slipped so much on the grass, that was still damp that at one point I was very frustrated. Joy kept me in line though and we had a very good round. Joy threw a 79 and was please to be ahead of me by 2 throws after the first half. Both these courses are worth the visit if you are ever in the Pittsburgh area. Moraine is 35 miles north and Knob Hill only 15 miles north.
Saturday evening we went to the very nice if pricey Palamino restaurant right near the hotel. The food was excellent but still the bill was about $100 for the three of us. We settled into our room and watch Final Destination 3 while Elisa went to more of the conference. A good nights sleep and then came driving home.
All day Sunday was devoted to the getting home drive. We left the hotel at 6:15 and cruised hour after hour with minor stops across Pennsylvania. We planned to take a midday break for another round of Disc Golf. We had looked up a place near Wilkes Barre called the Francis E Walter dam disc golf course http://www.pdga.com/course/courses_by_city.php?id=730 It was a nice course with one set of tees and baskets and was 5,695 feet, a pretty good length. Elisa had a 99, Joy a 76 and I a 58 and it took about 2 hours to play the round. The course definately plays easier than its length. It was a bit damp on the ground as the area had rain the day before but the course was pretty and well groomed having hosted an event the day before. Got back in the car about 2pm and drove the last six hours home. A very good disc golf filled weekend.
Played in the Barre Falls Open last weekend, had a 64 and 66 which is about what I average on that lefty friendly course. It was only good enough for 10th of 12 in the Advanced Masters division. Still it was a good time. The next day I went down to Borderland State Park in Sharon MA and played a long round and shot a 71 a personal best on the par 68, 8585 foot course.
My first year playing the ametuer circuit, definately bottom of the pack in the over 40 category, Played in the Borderland Spring Fling, Sharon MA in May, finish 4th of eight players. Then in June I played the Dragan Championships in Auburn Maine, came in ninth of 12 players. On both occasions there was pouring rain on the day of the event. Brutal to play in and really effected my head and body, but we all had the same conditions so no complaints. Next up is the Barre Falls Open in Barre MA on July 8th. Playing after work today and I have kept a good playing pace so far this year already recording near 30 rounds. Played 77 all last year so this is good.
