Although my mother was/is very present in my life, I was raised by my grandmother for eight years. She was verbally and emotionally abusive, and I developed a strong hatred for myself because of her particular brand of harshness. As an adult, I finally found my path to confidence in myself and a love for myself. However, I cannot forgive my grandmother. The worst thing about it is that my anger at her for what she did has turned me into her. I now treat her the way she treated me, and it is mostly on a subconscious level. I don’t even know I am doing it. But I do know I want to stop.
