I played at Majestic Star from midnight to 4 AM. I started off playing well, but then I decided to try to “really” take advantage of the desperate players trying to make their money back, but I didn’t do it right. I’d play hands that weren’t great but that I felt were better than what other players in the pot were raising with, and then when I’d hit on the flop, I still couldn’t call all-ins from these guys. And then I got sucked out on a couple of times, and I got tired and tilted, playing marginal hands like A-T from early position.
What “saved” me was when I sucked out on aces. I raised in MP with 9-9, got a caller who I had seen playing K-J against raises then betting people out of pots without hitting. The flop was seven high, I bet, he raised, I went all in, automatically putting him on either a 7, overcards, or a flush draw. He called with pocket aces, but I spiked a nine on the river. I probably should have left right then, but then I played (poorly) for another hour and ended up just barely ahead – $64.
