see ya, harry.

ooh i loved harry potter 7. definitely a great end to the story of HP. it’s weird that i’ve sort of grown up reading about this wizard kid going through all that crap. now he’s grown up and so am i. but i’m sure i’ll go back time and time again to re-read all seven HP books. a lot.

i also read brave new world in the past couple days, which i liked but didn’t love. i’m moving on to slaughterhouse-five.

from rand to rowling

i just finished the fountainhead. it was more than i expected it to be, but i am still unsure as to how i feel about it. i mean, the writing itself was great, and i did enjoy the story. but ayn rand is a lot to take in, i feel. hm, well maybe wrapping my mind around her philosophy a bit more will help me reflect on the book.

in any case, i started harry potter 7. at least i’ll be able to finish that one in a little less time than the fountainhead took me. :)

i like a challenge.

i am not quite halfway through ‘the mandarins’ by simone de beauvoir, and right now i feel extremely young and naive. her writing is poignant and beautiful, and even though the book’s setting and the context in which she wrote the book are highly different from the life i lead and the time in which i live, i find it completely relevant. it makes me want to live with an undying fervor, and not simply fill my days with distractions. is an existentialist crisis surely to follow my reading this novel? i guess only time will tell. until then, it’s page after page after page until i am done.

i am giving myself until next thursday to finish the book (all 610 pages of it) because i have it checked out of the library and i am moving out of my house next thursday, and will thus have to return it by then.

yes!

i’m so happy to write that this one is going well. i’m finally finishing kerouac’s on the road, and after that i’m planning on starting simone de beauvoir’s the mandarins. i think i can now call kerouac one of my top five favorite writers (the dharma bums is my favorite book)...probably because he seems just as crazy as i am. in any case, i’m glad this goal is ongoing, and i hope i can keep it up!
