Go to the Northern Hemisphere in January

I want to go on a solo holiday overseas im thinking of a weeks trip to Japan at the moment to ski, but i would much rather go somewhere for say a month live in the place maybe even work, with a working visa…does anyone have any destinations ideas? Could go for about 6 weeks i reckon.
