write every day for 15 minutes or more

Yesterday I got 5 pages written for a new play that I hope to enter in the Fringe festival in 2010. I’m really excited, it’s going well!

since I’m working on Script Frenzy. Just forcing myself to write something, anything, is better than nothing. One page usually ends up turning into two or three or five, haha!

I’ve been neglecting my writing lately… don’t know why. But anyway, today I did some revision work on “After Alice.” I need to get lots more done… I’m so behind!

• January 12 + 13 – no writing due to being sick

• January 11/09, 7:45 PM to 8:05 PM – revisions for “After Alice”

• January 10/09, 11:30 PM to 11:45 PM – 2 pages of brainstorming for new series (“Retail,” approximately 400 words)

• January 9/09, 11:30 PM to 11:45 PM – 1 page of a new script completed (“Symphonic,” approximately 300 words)

After completing nearly 9500 words in five days, the thought of winning NaNoWriMo or Script Frenzy is not nearly so impossible. I’m wondering… maybe this is the year I do it!

Script Frenzy is in April, and it’s 100 pages in 30 days… well, I did 43 pages in 5 days, so that’s DEFINITELY do-able.

NaNoWriMo is in November, 50000 words in 30 days. I did 9500 words in 5 days… so, again, I’m thinking this is do-able. Breaking it down, technically I’d have to write 1667 words per day to win NaNoWriMo. When you break it down like that it doesn’t seem so intimidating.

• January 8/09 – “AFTER ALICE” IS COMPLETE!
  9:00 PM to 10:30 PM – 6 pages of my play completed (43 pages total, approximately 9500 words)
  12:15 PM to 1:15 PM – 4 pages of my play completed (37 total, approximately 8100 words)
  12:15 AM to 12:45 AM – 3 pages of my play completed (33 total, approximately 7100 words)

• January 7/09, 11:15 AM to 11:30 AM – 1 page of my play completed (30 total, approximately 6400 words)

• January 6/09, 10:30 PM to 12 AM – 6 pages of my play completed (29 total, approximately 5900 words)
  12 AM to 2 AM – 6 pages of my play completed (23 total, approximately 4700 words)

• January 5/09, 11 AM to 2 PM – 12 pages of my play completed (17 total, approximately 3200 words)

• January 4/09, 9:30 PM to 10:30 PM – 5 pages of my play completed (“After Alice,” approximately 1000 words)

Total time spent writing “After Alice” – 10 hours, 45 minutes

I’ve procrastinated for long enough writing this play, and now the director is pissed that I’m not done. I need to get this done, and once it’s finished, I need to keep writing whatever comes into my head, just to get a body of work done that I can use!

If I make it part of my daily routine, it’ll be that much easier.
