September 18... rock climbing on the road!

Well, not exactly, haha.

Did a little roadtrip to Toronto with Tim, Kate, and Patti to meet with Anna, Justin and Jon and go climbing at Rock Oasis. It was PACKED. But it was a nice change from always climbing at Spikes. Plus the floor is squishy, and I got to try bouldering for the first time; it’s HARD. I stuck to mostly 5.6’s and 5.7’s as it was a new gym and I was unfamiliar with it, but I nailed all of them and most likely could have done the 5.8’s (if it weren’t so busy in there!).

I also finally purchased my own gear! I’m now the proud new owner of a gorgeous new harness and super-comfy climbing shoes (well, they’re as comfy as climbing shoes get). So psyched! :)

September 13!

Completed THREE 5.8’s tonight! :D

Also managed to fall off the wall and try to use my face as a cushion against the wall impact, but who’s counting. We’ll see if I have a nice bruise tomorrow.

September 10

I feel like I’m flooding this board, haha. Went climbing again yesterday with Tim and Kate. I was able to climb a 5.6, two 5.7’s and a 5.8. Woohoo! My technique is getting better, apparently.

I also tried climbing across the bottom of the wall without a belay. Managed to make it all the way across! Tim and I plan on going bouldering sometime soon, so this is good practice.

Went again on Monday.

Forgot to write about it… probably because it wasn’t my best climbing day ever! My arms weren’t in the mood to work for some reason… probably because I did yoga that morning and I shouldn’t be climbing and doing yoga the same day! They changed a couple of the routes, and the new 5.7’s are HARD. I’ll have to keep working on them. My knees are nicely bruised as well, haha.

My first 5.8.

Completed my first 5.8 course tonight. Apparently I’m picking things up really well. Feels good to be good at something.

Loving it!

I went climbing again today with Tim and Kate, and cleared my first 5.7. WOOHOO! Kate’s an instructor and she said I’m improving so much! I’m loving climbing. I need to work on taking my time going up the wall though. Haha, patience. I usually try to race up the wall, but it’s not a race, it’s going up the best way possible and making it to the top. :)

Learned to belay today!

Lots of fun going climbing again. I’m definitely improving! I think confidence is a big part of climbing, once you feel more comfortable you feel much more relaxed and it’s much easier-going. Learned to belay today and even though I have to be hooked up to the bench so I don’t get pulled into the wall (haha, which did happen my first attempt!), it’s still very cool knowing I can hold up guys twice my size!

First time!

I went with my friends Tim and Andre today and it was tons of fun. I did a 5.5 course and two 5.6 courses, and made it all the way to the top! I’d definitely like to go again. It’s fun to try new things!
