books of law

I finished Deuteronomy last night. I really like parts of the books of law, but other parts are kind of a long slog. I hadn’t read my Bible for a few months, so I’m glad to get back on track.

Untitled

Well, I finished reading Leviticus and am on to Numbers. Leviticus 27:29 struck me:

“No person specially set apart for destruction may be bought back. Such a person must be put to death.”

It was interesting to read because the idea is that we’re all sinners whose punishment is death. The Israelites weren’t allowed to buy back such people because Jesus is the only way we can be bought back, according to the new covenant. So the verse seems like foreshadowing…which, with my degree in writing, was very exciting to me. ;)

Leviticus

I finished Exodus the other day and have started Leviticus. It is becoming something I look forward to every day, though I do admit that I find the books of Law a little dry and repetitive…I do like how everything is explained and then the instructions are followed to a T and explained again. The accounting of how the people’s donated items were used in the Tabernacle was very interesting, too. I think my former church could have done that…

Old or New?

I read the Bible starting in the spring of 2008 and finished this past summer. I started with Matthew and read the New Testament and then Genesis and the Old Testament. I think I may switch it up and start with the Old Testament this time. Hmm.
