“Teach Yourself Cantonese” It’s a little surprising and rather frustrating to see the majority of items aimed toward Mandarin Chinese. I realize it’s the standard, but quite often in Chinese restaurants and what not they still speak Cantonese. That perhaps will change, but I still prefer listening to Cantonese over Mandarin.

It’s actually useful for what I need Cantonese specifically for. Although I’m not quite brave enough to actually use it. Or I forget. My first reaction to say “yes” in another language other than English is the French “oui”. Considering I only studied French for about 6 weeks, I find that weird.
...when I was younger I was pretty much “I’m never gonna NEED this…”
I was wrong. It’s a little embarrassing to be spoken to and to look like a total idiot because I can’t speak it. I’m an ABC, but I work in a city with many Cantonese speakers. And since I’ll probably use this on a semi daily basis, it’ll have some sort of application other than learning poetry and knowing how to say “This is my bookbag.”
