Many of my other goals are all basically sub-goals orbiting around this main goal.
Learn erlang.
Write the ahyane CMS
Recruit a cofounder
Quit my job
Build @trn
Build 10 useful websites
Even “be more genuine” has a lot to do with this goal.
The next programming language that I’m going to learn is erlang. Ahyane I need for my own use. It solves a problem I have, and it’s really annoying one, and PHP is actually very well suited to the task. @trn is really a way to get myself to learn erlang by building something interesting with it. And the 10 interesting websites I really can’t do while I have a day job; at least, I need a less ambitious goal.
I define “hacker” as someone who is an expert at quickly building things that other people would love to use, things that are unexpected and clever, yet obvious once you see them in action. A hacker is like a poet–he uses fewer words for greater effect, and his words stick with you because they’re somehow just right.
There are two parts of that.
1. building things cleverly
2. building things that people want
I’m pretty good at both, but need more empathy, more drive, and more persistence to finish what I start.
