When I came to Honduras, my expectations were not being met at my job, in friendships, with my host family, and I did not possess or portray a thankful heart. I have learned, as a result of moving to a different household and having a heart-to-heart with the family with whom I am currently living, that thankfulness comes from the heart. In eating, do I genuinely like the food… sometimes, no, sometimes, yes, but am I truly thankful to have food to eat? That is the difference! When I don’t have warm water at the house, am I simply thankful that I have water to take a shower that day? When I go to school and have a difficult day at work, I can be thankful that I have a job that I enjoy the majority of the time! I can be even more greatful that I have a job. It all comes down to perspective: am I truly thankful for what I have… even when it is what I originally wanted or expected?
