I had a major practice session last night, I can now add the C open chord to my list, and the F chord is coming along slowly… my fingers will need to stretch a bit before the B chord will even be on the table. The new focus of my study is going to be chord changes, so I am working on “hide your love away” by the Beatles… I’m getting there :)

I got my acoustic guitar for Christmas last year and whenever I have time I love playing it. I am fortunate in that my step-father has been playing guitar for years and really enjoys teaching me. At this point, I can play a dozen or so riffs and two or three songs. The trouble is that I have established quite a comfort zone to the extent that I only look for tabs that use the D, A, G, and Em chords. While I can say that I have mastered these chords, this rut has done nothing to help me learn a C, F, or B chord. The latter two I question if I will ever be able to play because my fingers are quite short.
I also need to learn the music theory behind acoustic guitar, I know open chords, but I am clueless about anything else. I know that there must be a logic behind 7s, and suspended strings, my step-father can look at a tab an immediately know the fingerings. I need to be able to do this.
To end on a positive note, I have only been playing for about three months, so I think that I am doing pretty good… but there is lots of room for improvement.
