10 steps back

My desk is just awful… since I moved, I haven’t put any effort into organizing my work area. I still have an inbox but it’s mostly where I put things that need to be filed away, not things that need to be done. I don’t have places for anything yet. I need some kind of drawers or shelving, but I have absolutely no space – it would be great to have something I can hang on the wall next to the desk.

Anything with drawers is good.

I’ve acquired a hand-me-down set of drawers on wheels – with 2 small drawers and one big one for files. I cleaned it and repaired it, and it fits snugly over the lip of my desk on the side within easy reach. I am actually very excited by the possibility of paying bills at my desk and NOT having to run to the other room to get envelopes and stamps. It’s all right there! Oh my God!

Baby steps.

This weekend I got this little basket to put all my little loose scraps of paper, pens, notebooks and important mail in. It’s still the same old crap but at least it’s not scattered on my desk. Now it’s randomly shoved into a decorative basket on my desk.

I also bought REAL FILE FOLDERS and started organizing past and present tax/financial stuff. And I’ve got a big pile of papers to shred.

Andrew cleared off a row of bookshelf for me so I can put my computer and art books there. Right now they’re in a teetering stack next to my desk.
