So National Novel Writing Month has come and gone and I’m finally over the “must… write… today… more… now… today… how manythousandsofwords am I behind ohmigoshI’llneverfinis aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh stage.
I miss the hectic pace, the desperate moves that were brought about by a lack of time and a need to up the word count, the freedom to write without editing. I loved the frantic creation, the frustration with my characters when they wound up literally stuck and we couldn’t figure out what to do next. I found myself having a mental conversation with a person who isn’t even real more often than now. “Well NOW what do we do?”
“How should I know? YOU are the one who brought that storm into the picture. I can’t find anything to eat, and I’m starving, much less the rest of the characters. I’m at my wits end here. THINK OF SOMETHING, WOMAN!!!”
Belligerence, laughter, tears and all… I kind of miss them.
I’m definitely going to be writing more often, though not at quite the same pace as before.

I have a love hate relationship with National Novel Writing Month. I loving writing a story without stopping, without a chance to think too much about it, without editing. I’m hating writing under a deadline, writing without regard to tense, writing, writing, writing, writing without considering what a 2000 word turn of events might do to the entire plotline….
That being said, of course I’ll do it again next year!

I’m still writing, but in no structured way whatsoever. When I initially listed this goal, I was hoping to be able to just jump start my creativity some, which worked remarkably well. I went from zilch on the drawing board to about five projects in the space of a few weeks. To me, this is a good thing.
After the initial burst of energy from doing something “new” and getting a lot of ideas on paper, I sort of stalled. Life got a little hectic and rather than taking time to write, I started absorbing everyone else’s creations. (ie – tv and books and other short stories).
I had a few great ideas pop into my head today that should help me spur some projects along though.

I’ve started a few short stories, started plots and sidelines for a new game we’ve just picked up, written a few articles for the squadron newsletter and I’m an email junkie.
I’ve been writing a lot more than usual lately and I’m realizing that I’ve adopted too much “netspeak.” Not that I use l33t, excessive abbreviation, or disturbing acronyms, but my paragraphs are pathetically short and my sentance structure is even worse.
I’ll work on it. Hey… the first step to finding a resolution is acknowledging you have a problem. ;)

I have so many ideas for writing – plays, shorts, novels, poems… What’s stopping me?
Not much.
I’m looking into taking a creative writing course to kick myself into gear, but it all boils down to a smidge of selfindulgence. Mmm, an hour of writing time. Savor it!
