The weight loss is noticeable enough that people I have spoken to recently have said so.



Liquid diet 4 months ago

Before you judge me, I have back surgery in early October.

Slimfast and protein boosted smoothies are the route I’m taking now, which allows me to control my intake of fat and complex carbs, for two meals. Snacks are non-starchy fruits and vegetables, with nuts. I usually have a regular dinner.

It’s not perfectly followed, but it will have to do for now. I still am active and exercising as pain allows.



Lost 10 pounds 6 months ago

Not really focusing on weight loss but focusing on injury recovery.



More fruits and vegetables 8 months ago

Getting suggestions from my chiropractor(s):

- Eat a fruit or a vegetable just before a meal, and waiting 10 minutes to see if I’m still hungry
- Eat more soup (time to start tracking this goal here again?)



Slowly climbing back on the horse 14 months ago

It is so hard with a back injury but I am getting back to the pool a lot more.



Falling down 16 months ago

A persistent back injury is making it very difficult for me to reach this goal, and things have ground to a near halt.



Switching gears on exercise? 18 months ago

I mentioned that our apartment complex swimming pool has been open since last mid-May, so I have started taking more opportunities to go out and swim there.

I feel badly for the neighborhood children. Just last Friday, quite a few were coming to the door saying “the pool’s open” and asking when we would be down there to supervise them. Boo to lazy parents.

Anyways (back on topic), I have been making an effort to go to the gym pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays to take advantage of hydrotherapy time. It has been an important tool in my cross-training regimen, and I am working to be regular with that routine again.



Taking opportunities where I can to be active 18 months ago

For those of you crazy enough to read my other entries, I wrote about walking with my daughter to the farmer’s market (and a bit about the adventures to and from) and about taking more time at the pool here at the apartment complex.

As a father of two busy young children, more often than not, quite a bit of exercise is keeping them busy.
