I have yet to put anything on a blank webpage. Right now, I am posting exercises to a blog at my main site, which is boring as hell.
I know a lot of Linux webauthors like gedit, but I think I’ll take a look at Screem and open a free webpage somewhere to start playing with that.

I am using Ta-da Lists for checklists to meet this goal.

I finally set up a blog to post HTML exercises to, and I made my first practice post.

My wife got me one of those fold-out HTML Guides for students, which I will add with the HTML cheat sheet I printed out once I get a 3-ring binder to put it in.
Making a quick list of places to start practicing:
- my blogs that use HTML (LiveJournal, VOX)
- free hosting sites (Angelfire, Bravenet, etc.)
Tools I should look at and use:
- gedit
- Quanta Plus (looks like a KDE interface)
- Screem (GNOME interface, but no WSIWYG)
- Filezilla FTP for Linux

I was looking at WIRED’s web developer site, Webmonkey and found some great links to “cheat” sheets for various programming languages, including HTML.
The Best Developer Cheat Sheets Around especially stood out, and I checked out the first link for HTML at ilovejackdaniels.com and printed out their sheet :)

Well, Firefox 3 beta 5 (and RC1… but I haven’t checked since the upgrade) totally breaks the formatting for VOX, one of my other favorite blogs. I run Linux now, so going back to Firefox 2 wasn’t an option I could make work… right now.
Actually, the problem is because things are optimized for IE and XP there. IE hasn’t been compliant with web standards for some time now.
So… I got a Greasemonkey script that allows me to switch to HTML when commenting or making a post. Why 6A didn’t bring that feature over from LJ I’ll never know save VOX uses the Atom API, and maybe that’s it. But I now have a good incentive to start learning basic HTML better.

It could certainly help me in my quest to get into the IT industry, eventually.
I’m going to include XML (xHTML) with this one.
I know a bit—some blogs I’m on require either a strong command of HTML or a user-side client to link and even display things a certain way. But I’d like to have a more comprehensive knowledge.
