Not exactly quilting, yet.

I’ve got some confusion on how to cut out the next couple of months that I’ve got to do. So I’ve been putting it off. However, today, I cut out blocks to make coasters. By next week, I want to continue working on those. I also want to contact my neighbor and see if she can come over and cut with me this week. I also think I should get started putting together the blocks that I’ve got cut. Again, I’m not entirely sure how. The instructions should help with that, though. I think.

Foiled again...

Well, my neighbor couldn’t come today. My parents were at home all day (my dad is sick) so I couldn’t pull stuff out to quilt. But tomorrow is another day!!!

Success and a Setback

Today, I finished the throw-quilt that I started 3 years ago!

I am very proud of myself. It turned out pretty well, even if it is a bit off-kilter. It’s kind of pretty, and it’s very light and nice.

On the other hand, I discovered that it will take an exhorbitant amount of money to finish my grandmother’s quilt. It is OVER king-sized. It was suggested that I cut it into two quilts, or size it down a bit. I was looking at it tonight, and I can’t make up my mind. When Mom gets home later this week, I think I will get her opinion on this. She might even help pay for some of the yardage. If my measurements are correct, and from looking at the top this evening, I think they are, it will take about 17 yards to finish this quilt, not including the batting.

I also have an idea for my bedroom quilt/comforter for my bed. I’m thinking I’ll find some toile and make a bedspread out of that. It will be lovely, and if it’s in neutral tones, it will be exactly in line with my color sceme. I think it will work.

Since tomorrow is Superbowl Sunday, I doubt very much that I will cut out squares, but I might. My next-door neighbor is going to come over on Tuesday afternoon, and we are going to cut out more squares for my BOTM quilt. It will be good to get more on that finished. When I’ve got it all cut out, I’ll start piecing, and it’s all downhill from there!

So, for the record, that is ONE quilt out of 3 done. Two more to go!

Tops measured.

I got the quilt tops that are finished measured for batting/backing yesterday. I wrote the measurements down in my shopping list book, and tomorrow, I’ll be heading over to the quilt shop to buy the stuff to finish the smaller of the two, the throw that I finished Sunday. I’ve got enough fabric on hand to back it, and I think, with a little bit of work, I can have it put together this weekend.

Not as I had planned

I did not get to the quilt shop to buy quilting materials last week, I ran out of money instead on knitting materials.

I DID, however, get one top finished, and one more month’s worth of material cut out for the other block.

SO!

Tomorrow, I am going to pull out the top I finished (it’s throw-sized) and I’m going to measure out the material for the back. I think I’ve got enough for the back, anyway. Which means that on Thursday (payday) I am going over to get that batting, and I can finish putting it together this weekend! It will take me some time to quilt it, but at least it will be put together. This is important.

I will also take the finished top from my grandmother and measure it, and see how much batting I need to get for it. I need to get backing for it as well, and that will be a bit expensive. Unless I can find something on sale somewhere.

But at the moment, I’ve got one very close to being done, and a second one step closer. With some consistent effort, these could be finished by Easter. Woohoo!

Once more unto the Quilt Shop...

On Saturday, I took a reconnaisance trip to the quilt store in Caldwell. It is a cute shop, and I’ve got some ideas on what to do for the backing of my grandmother’s quilt top. I believe I’ve got enough to finish the one I started here in the sewing box, but as I have not finished piecing it yet, I don’t know for sure. Since I get paid tomorrow, I am going to go and at least buy the batting for the quilt that I have started. I am planning to get the top finished this weekend. I’ve got some adjustments to make, but I think I can get my neighbor to help with that.

I think when I get this one finished and put together, it will help free me up to finish cutting out my block of the month quilt and working at finishing my grandmother’s top.

So, batting tomorrow, finish the one over the weekend (or at least get it to a place where I can tie it), and next week, work on the finished top. Since there is no football this weekend, I’ll have all Sunday afternoon to get it together.

It will be nice to use the sewing machine again.
