I’m a prospective college freshmn. And I KNOW I want to become a doctor.
I’m not in it for the money.
I’m not in it for fame and recognition.
I’m not in it for my friends and family.
I’m in it for people that need help.
I’m thinking of becoming a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon.
Why these 2 professions? Well, I’ve suffered with bad skin for the majority of my life and I know what that’s like, in regards to self esteem. I’ve encountered so many people with low self esteem and I know its effects. Granted these people are teenagers but I know adults can suffer from this.
Self esteem is such an important factor in life – without it, you don’t know who you are.
In regards to cosmetic surgery, I’m hoping to work in hospitals with patients who have such disabilities, which dramatically decrease their levels of self esteem and confidence to enjoy the benefits of feeling normal and feeling confident about themselves. Such as burn victems, or people that were in major accidents that severly disconfigured their nose, eyes, lips, etc… and help the people that lost 100 lbs of fat and wanting to get rid of excess skin. Just things like these that can improve one’s confidence are what I want to achieve in the future.
There are so many people against cosmetic surgery but please don’t assume that becoming a cosmetic surgeon is all about a shallow surgeon plumping up the lips and performing lipo, because it is a profession that can really change people’s outlook on the great possibilities that life can offer.
