I’ve always believed no one is responsible for my happiness but me. Recently I’ve forgotten this. It’s never safe to wear one’s heart on his or her sleeve, but there ought to be a happy medium between that and not having a heart at all. To not depend on someone else for happiness had been a horribly lonely road and it’s no wonder I fail at it so often. It’s not an issue of trust: I fully trust people to behave as people will because that is what they do. It’s more of an issue of pain.
