because the alternative, of not trusting is not the way to lead a life.
It really does help to have someone who is forthright in every way, from the moment you meet them, without pretense, who utters every thought to you, and asks you to deal with it, that makes you know that he is trustworthy.
It was a slow process. You trust a little, and a little more as they GAIN your trust. It is always a 2 way process.

After the “mutual” breakup, I tried my hardest to get on with my life. It was very hurtful to find out that the ex has hooked up with his colleague, the one I was always suspicious about. He used to deny and say I was imagining things, being paranoid. All those promises that she will never be more than a friend. I don’t quite know how to deal with these lies and betrayal and manipulation to doubt myself. He made me believe I was just the suspicious paranoid jealous gf, you know?
He was my best friend, and to have things turn out this way, I really don’t know how I can learn to trust someone again. When words are as fickle as human hearts.
