I’ve actually already begun studying Tai Chi, so my real goal is to make it a permanent part of my weekly routine. I’m enrolled in a class that is 7 weeks long, and only have 2 weeks left, so I’m currently looking around town for a new instructor/studio to continue my studies once this one is done (this class just seems to be an intro). I’ve watched quite a few videos on youtube and it’s amazing how different the styles are … that part is a little daunting when looking for a new teacher, because I really like the style I’ve been learning. I also bought a book called “T’ai Chi: The “Supreme Ultimate” Excercise for Health, Sport, and Self-Defense” by Cheng Man-ch’ing and Robert W. Smith. I really like this book so far because it gives you an intro into the principles of Tai Chi, but then the rest of the book gives you step by step pictures and diagrams of where/how your feet should be placed for each posture. I picked this book up because the style seems very close to what I am currently learning.
Also probably worth mentioning because I see the wisdom in it, (and my instructor has said as much) is a quote from the book: “In Tai Chi three factors are very important: correct teaching, perseverance, and natural talent. Of the three, correct teaching (or right method) is the most important.
