Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

Finally, an improvement

It took longer than I thought it would (over two years, in fact), but things are finally taking a turn for the better. I’m up to 83% now (up from 74% two years ago).

Physical Environment: 19
Well-Being: 19
Money: 21
Relationships: 24

I still have work to do in all categories. In fact, major work in all categories, except for relationships, where I only have one thing to work on.

Pretty Much Right on Track With My Goal

Earlier this year, I set a goal to get to 90% by the end of the year. My goal is this:

60% before June 1
70% before August 1
80% before October 1
90% before January 1

Right now, I’m at 74%. We moved at the end of August, which made my physical environment section go way up.

There’s about a week left in the month, and some of the things on the list that I have to work on could be done pretty easily if I put my mind on them (drinking 2 liters of water a day (which is also one of my 43 Things so it would be great to get it done), walk or exercise at least three times per week, use well-made sunglasses, getting my car in excellent condition since all it needs is to get the inside of it cleaned out), my clothes are all ironed, clean and make me look good (I have a few tattered clothes I need to throw out and I need to put the washed clothes away), and backing up my hard drive at least monthly). So, it should be doable to get the last 6% by October 1. :)

Plan for the year

I want 2010 to be my best year ever. I plan to Cleansweep my life up to 90% by the end of the year. Here is my goal:

60% before June 1
70% before August 1
80% before October 1
90% before January 1

The remaining 10% will take a while to get finished since there are some things on here that will take a long amount of time. But if I manage to get to 90% by the end of the year, I’ll be happy. :)

58%. A 5% improvement

I’ve had a 5% improvement since my first assessment almost 2 years ago. I was at 53% then, I’m at 58% now.

Physical Environment: 11
Well-Being: 15
Money: 10
Relationships: 22

All sections went up, but my well-being section went down 3%. I don’t exercise like I should, I procrastinate to get things done and then end up rushing, and my sleeping pattern is erratic right now.

Still, it’s nice to see that my life has improved overall. :)

My First Assessment

Total 53

Physical Environment: 9
Well-Being: 18
Money: 5
Relationships: 21

The physical environment section will be the easiest to improve upon for me, so I’ll work on that section first. I’d love to improve upon the money section, but that’s not in the cards right now.
