There’s a yearning deep down inside me that comes out every so often to just get on a bike and ride. Ride, and ride, and ride. So one day, in college, I bought a bike. A cheap bike, a $50-from-Wal-Mart bike that I stuffed into my car, hauled home, got on, and rode. I rode everywhere, all over town, for the whole day. It was one of the best days of my life! And then, when I got home, I placed it in the bike rack and said to myself, “Shoot! I forgot to get a lock! I’ll pick one up first thing in the morning.” Well, needless to say, the “first thing in the morning” part wasn’t soon enough. My precious new love was stolen in the night. I haven’t bought a bike since, but the yearning hasn’t gone away. I shall buy another bike, a lock for it, and ride into the sunset! (Or across America…)
