They have a ‘tree’ where you pick a kid and buy them a book. I picked a 10 year old girl and bought her Harriet the Spy, because that book is entirely too awesome. I’m really glad that Barnes and Noble was doing this. I liked buying a book for a child better than doing Toys for Tots. I had such a blast wandering through the children’s section trying to remember what I read when I was 10 and what book this 10 year old just HAD to have. It came down to Harriet the Spy, Matilda, and Caddie Woodlawn, but in the end I picked Harriet because my roommate said SHE didn’t like Matilda, and not everyone likes praire-related stories as much as I do.
I will definitely file this under “do it every year.” Especially now that I have more money and am able to do things like this.
