Went to:
1) Fort Rox festival in Newhaven on the south coast.
(See goal of ‘have more fun’ for more details.)
2) To hear pieces by Steve Reich at the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington.
I went with a friend of mine and his girlfriend who is a concert pianist. The best way I can describe his music is as having changing rhythms looped and layered on top of one another. The main instruments he uses are wooden and metal xylophones and african drums (he’s music is influenced alot from time he spent in Ghana). There’s not a lot of melody but sounds come out from the contrast in rhythms. One of the pieces called ‘Clapping’ was literally two performers who came on stage and clapped for 12 mins layering and looping different clapping rhythms.
3) Gunnersbury Park for the Mela Festival.
I went along with my girlfriend as she was involved in setting up. I didn’t actually go to the festival.
The two new things were:
1) going to a restaurant (Carluccio’s) with my girlfriend.
2) And bringing all my different friends together and driving everyone to that festival in Newhaven.
