I know that this can happen. It’s a matter of if the feeling is mutual. Very frequently I visualize a guy looking towards me, but I’m looking at a different guy, and the guy I’m looking at is looking at some other girl. In this scenario 2 out of 3 are screwed, and not even in a good way.
