Looking back over the years I have strived too hard to gain physical property – nice homes, nice cars etc. At the ripe old age of 53 I admire those who are younger and are considering the merits of working a job that they love.
The danger in any job, whether you like it or not, is that it detracts from the time that you’d otherwise have with your family. I am sort of a poster-child for what not to do. Too much school, too much travel: too much time away.
My son is 17 and will be off to college in a year and there are times that a I don’t feel that I know him. The homes and cars don’t really matter when you consider how brief and fleeting the moments are with your family. And when they are gone, they are gone forever.
So. Is it good to enjoy your job? Of course. Just remember that the job is the vehicle not the destination.
