So my friend L and I are gym buddies. We’re not too serious about the gym, just like the company (we are those people that crack jokes about what’s on TV while running on the elliptical machine). However, L likes to challenge me now and then (ok, every time) to a sit up duel. It goes like this:
He does 10 sit ups
I do 10 sit ups
He does 15 sit ups
I do 15 sit ups
and so on and so forth until one of us cannot best the other in the amount of sit ups done. L always beats me at this challenge and likes to rib me about it “Hey M, ready for a SIT UP CHALLENGE?” said with a wink always.
Well…today, my friends, I beat him…by two sit ups. Booyah!
When I told him about my crunches challenge, he blithely said, “yeah well over time there are diminishing returns to doing the same thing every day” (which I agree with him and he did not say this in a mean way and complimented me on how much I’ve improved). But until the crunches stop burning like fire, I say…bring on the sit up challenges, my friend, I am always ready for a round 2.
Ok, so I’ll admit it, I screwed up a couple times on this goal and had to double up my crunches (yes, I did 200 at a time…ouch!). I’m still keeping track though and continue to see the benefits. I’m rocking it in my belly dancing class with my strong ab muscles – wooo! :)
Holy crapola! I’m half-way through this crazy goal. I will confess, two days ago, I missed a day – BUT! I made up for it by doing two sets of crunches in one day. Once in the morning, and then again in the evening at the gym. So, I maintain that I have not faltered and press onward!
Still kickin’ it with the crunches. Have not missed a single day yet – wowza!
Now that I’m sort of in the swing of it becoming part of my routine and losing some momentum, I need inspiration. Well, I found that inspiration tonight in my belly dancing class. We have a group performance on August 22 (my first!) and our choreography calls for a lot of profile body waves and undulations, which means I will want to have some well-built core muscles for that! I’m getting fairly good at them for a beginner, but the more strength and flexibility I have, the better the dance will look. Onward!
Ok, I have to admit I’m starting to lose a little bit of my momentum and enthusiasm for this, but! I’m still keeping at it, and I’ve got the abs to show for it!
I wore a midriff baring outfit to my belly dancing class yesterday and I can honestly say I felt really confident and proud of my mid-section. Sure, there were skinnier babes in my class, but I’m toned! Baring my midriff also helped me learn a new fast step we were learning, so it was doubly good to show some skin!
I’m continuing to deepen my crunches and now spend about twice as long doing them, trying to really perfect each one. A little strenuous at times, but I always feel great afterwards.
I’m already 1/3 through this goal and even though it’s such a small thing, doing crunches, the consistency that I’ve created has helped me apply that feeling across other goals and dreams. Very cool :)
I’m still at it and have not missed a single day knock on wood. I’m starting to power through the first 25, and incorporating more of my difficult crunches for longer sets. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming…
