i actually don’t really like bready things. i acquiesced to sharing a pancake and an omelet with a friend the other day and i hardly wanted more than two or three bites of the pancake. it tasted so dry in comparison with the other foods. i just wasn’t that into it.

found some yummy rice/almond crackers at my local grocer. they made for a nice snack at work today.

i’m doing really well with this lately. i had a bun with my burger on the fourth of july, but that was just me being american and all. and i’m still drinking beer, but not a lot. and maybe shrimp tempura has wheat in the batter. but really. zero bread, zero pasta. no pastries or anything.

corn tortillas are a great substitute. and i got some of those rice paper wraps – love ‘em.

rice is nice 7 months ago

surreptitiously ate rice cakes and lara bars from my bag at a coffee shop yesterday, which kept me from snacking on croissants and bagels and what not.

then i ate a sandwich out for dinner. afterward i thought i could have made a better choice, but whatever. i don’t need to stress about it now. enough that i refrained from the coffee shop pastry menu.

today: salad, stirfry w/rice, and rice cakes in between. wonderful.

this will get easier with the warmer weather. bread and pasta are not that appealing in the heat of summer. yay summer!

one day at a time 7 months ago

stress, business, and being cash-poor makes this goal really difficult. pizza and pasta have found their way back into my diet. meanwhile acne and snot have found their way back into my face. gross, and no coincidence. i need to get back on this. today has been good. we’ll see about tonight and tomorrow.

much better 10 months ago

i think the only wheat i have had in the last week was a couple of girl scout cookies. i found a korean food truck close to my school that serves relatively inexpensive and good rice dishes. big help.

i’ve seen real hope that this goal could actually get accomplished.

i need to figure something out 10 months ago

i felt so good without the wheat and this last week i have eaten it for a number of school lunches and wish i hadn’t. when i get stuck at school without a packed snack, non-wheat alternatives just seem so expensive compared to the free pizza being offered by some student organization.

i could just eat fries – they’re cheap – but that seems so unhealthy. maybe that’s just because my stomach feels gross from all the free pizza i ate for lunch today.

i can’t wait for it to get warm enough for the fruit stand to come back. a huge (huge) fruit salad for three bucks.

i should remember this feeling and this post and opt for fries next time (assuming it’s still too cold for the fruit lady).

bleh.

pretty good 11 months ago

i only slipped up twice. i ate some chex party mix on nye, and yesterday i ate two holiday cookies. not too bad at all.

i really want some pizza, though. really. i’m going to try to resist, but i am guessing my will power will be particularly weak after going to the gym tomorrow.

maybe i’m just hungry now. i’ll eat a super big breakfast tomorrow and maybe that will help me hold off on the pizza a bit.

mostly 11 months ago

i gave in to friends’ offers of holiday cookies and my mother’s traditional xmas morning french toast. it was cool to see, though, how these were the only instances that i wavered. once the holidays are over, my only weaknesses will be pasta and pizza. i think i can do away with the pasta by replacing with rice noodles or just plain rice. pizza will then be my only weakness. we’ll see how it goes.

i will see how well i can pull off a wheat-free week now (with the exception of new years eve when i expect to indulge in all kinds of indulgences).

a week? 11 months ago

why? because wheat ages the body, because i want better digestion, because i want to.

baby step: i’m going to try to go a whole week without it. the hardest part might be christmas, but i think i can do it by just avoiding the bread.

i actually don’t think this will be too difficult for me. some minor adjustments, a little extra care. i noticed today that the veggie hot dog i ate for lunch actually contains wheat. i imagine i will have to take extra care with all meat substitutes. that’s ok. i’ve been eating tons of almonds and eggs, so i think my serious protein fixes can survive without them. at least for a week.

fed the beast 12 months ago

i had limited time and resources to grab a snack for my final today, so i got a pretzel. no time or energy to battle the candida beast when i’m in the middle of an exam. must keep it appeased for now.

i also have a cabinet full of pasta. that’s probably what i’ll miss the most. i actually have little interest in bread. [i know, everyone else is nutso about it.] anyway, after finals i will definitely just consume the wheat that i already have in the kitchen and not buy any more!
