The Omnivore’s Dilemma, my Michael Pollan, and have since discovered that “organic” is not the magic word for food that is healthy, natural, and humanely & sustainably produced. Those are more likely to be “pastoral” or “multicultured” or “locally grown.” People like Joel Salatin on his farm Polyface in Virginia are doing things the right way. Organic, and especially Industrial Organic, is often no better for the land than typical farming. It’s nothing more than a marketing tool.

the more horrified I am by how much processed, genetically engineered, not-locally-grown, pesticide/herbicide-ful, unnatural food I eat. I’m not even kidding. I want to live somewhere where all of the food I eat is locally grown/raised/baked/made. I can’t now…and probably not until after college…but man…
Gross!!
doesn’t this look good?
Everyone should eat organic food because it’s not only healthier and better for the environment, it tastes more delicious!
The problem is that I don’t really have control of what food is bought while I’m still living at home (high school student here). And even if I could get around the whole living-at-home thing, I don’t have any money. So…this is probably something I’ll do more of when I’m on my own. And, of course, whenever I can convince the fam to stop with the preservatives already!
Hah! I did it! I went to the market this Saturday like I said I would and next week, I’m going again!
I’m planning to go to the Farmers’ Market this Saturday (EARLY) and do all vegetable shopping there!
