It doesn’t matter to most people, but to the ones who do, it is definitely worth doing. They divide those who know from those who do not, and if you are accepted as one who does, it can afford many advantages.
In that society, they do not care so much about what you own or what you have, but they do care about appearances and good graces.
Even I (one of the have nots) am impatient with boorish people, male or female, who believe that being famous, or rich or important is all that matters.
The worst thing in life is someone who feels that they can be rude, just because they are more important than anyone else. As a devotee of Jesus Christ, I think humility is so endearing, especially from someone who can afford to be proud of who he is. When I see someone acting presumptuously or contemptuously, I always know that he is a “second class citizen” or he would not be so insecure.
