I am wondering if it wouldn’t be a better idea to change my focus and go for a distance program in an entirely different field. That way I could keep my job and maybe get school credit for it too.

I have got to stop being so intimidated by this. I need to break it down into manageable steps, is all. I got through undergrad and I can get in to a good program, if I just keep inching toward it.
Found a place to volunteer to, now to fill out the application and find 2 more people to give me letters of recommendation. Just for volunteering, not actually LORs for grad school, yet.
UPDATE: Need one more person, now. Progress.
I called them and they said it was pretty much unheard of for someone to come back for internships after graduation on the undergraduate levvel. The person I talked to did suggest some places to volunteer where they put people already and mentioned it would be useful for grad school anyway, from a human service angle, which I hadn’t considered.
I’m going to call my old alma mater and see if I can take their internship class as a postgrad, or if I have to re-enroll. My parents have offered to help with tuition if they do allow it and I do get in. If not, maybe they will have a recommendation for somewhere else. If I’d had any idea it would be hard to find research experience, I’d have started looking the second I graduated.
I joined a bunch of communities dealing with grad school admissions, and have figured out that for pretty much all clinical psych programs, research experience is needed. I have none. I’m a year out from graduation, and I have no idea how to get any at this point in time.
I printed out a booklet about applying to grad school that I found on the University of Michigan’s website. I’m hoping it will inspire me to keep moving on this.
I am looking at grad school books today to try to narrow down where i want to go. I wish psych was a slightly less popular field, it’s overwhelming how many possibilities there are.
HOW DO I NARROW IT DOWN?
UPDATE:I’ve ruled out Idaho, Texas, Utah, Alabama, Mississippi, Montana, Arizona, and Nebraska, arbitrarily. Also any schools that don’t offer both Masters and PhD programs. This has left me with 4 pages of single spaced schools to look at, still and far from finished. Also, social work and social psych are out. Left are Biopsych, Forensic psych, Clinical, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Neuroscience and Neurobiology. I’m considering adding General Psychology, but I’m not sure it’s worth it.
Can anyone help me out? I need to write to some of my old profs for letters of recommendation. If anyone else has done this, can you tell me how you worded it and what the result was?
Also, what factors did you take into account when you were deciding on a school?
I’m having trouble getting started on this, in part because I am overwhelmed and intimidated by all the steps.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
