I’ve made incredible progress without any drugs or therapy and you can too. The problem may very well be with your body chemistry or neurotransmitters.

Go the the Flaws of Traditional Medicine section and if nothing else, read Part 5- Improper treatment for depression. There is also some info on the subject in the FAQ section.

I never was suicidal but I used to get panic attacks so severe that I thought I would die and sometimes I hoped for it. I just wanted it to be quick and relatively painless.
As for my neurotransmitters: serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline, glycine and GABA were all low so it’s no surprise that SSRIs didn’t help.
Above all, PLEASE do not harm yourself. Do not accept defeat. You can beat this!

Both contain information on why prescription anti-depressants often do not work. Fully 70% of people taking an anti-depressant have unresolved symptoms.

In my case, my serotonin was 62% of normal while my dopamine was 77% and my adrenaline was a mere 46%. I also had a serious GABA deficiency (caused panic attacks) and a high taurine level. It’s easy to see why medication that targeted serotonin was ineffective because it did nothing for my other deficiencies.
I recognize that every case is different but psychological counseling did absolutely nothing for me. My problem is/was almost purely chemical and one on one counseling did nothing to solve these imbalances. Only neurotranmitter supplements can bring me back to balance.
My experience with anti-depressants: Every time I increased my dosage, I quickly got somewhat better but within a month or two, I was not much better than before I started the meds. The cycle repeated itself until I was up to 120 mg. of Cymbalta. Side effects included feeling jittery, weight gain and a “drugged feeling” as if in a dream world haze. Eventually, I was able to wean off that stuff but could not quit completely until I took some OTC SAM e-. I recommend trying different OTCs such as St. John’s Wort and a combination of SAM e and 5-HTP.
It would be 8 months between quitting the anti-depressants and getting my neurotransmitters tested. Believe it or not, I finished a half-marathon in less than 2 hours and held down a steady job, which I have performed well. When 100% healthy, I expect to have great potential for excellence in every area of life. Good luck and prayers to all.

I once took 120 mg. of Cymbalta and had 3 visits with a quack psychologist and did not feel significantly better. Neurotransmitter tests will determine the cause of your depression. Yes, my serotonin level was low but I also had 7 other imbalances (11 were tested). You may have a low dopamine or epinephrine level which contributes to symptoms of depression. I will post more on this subject including reasons why SSRIs often do not work.
I want y’all to know that it breaks my heart to see anyone suffering from this and I can relate to how you feel. I was never suicidal but did have periods in which I would rather have been dead than live with these symptoms for life. I would not wish that on my worst enemy.
