Improve my photography

Getting a better camera helped me to take better pictures in low-light conditions that my cheap camera could never possibly take sans flash. But with more expensive equipment came a hesitation to whip it out on a whim. The greatest lesson I learned on my recent travels is not to be shy about taking pictures. After I returned and reviewed my photos, I was disappointed that I wasn’t more adventurous with photo taking as I was when I had a tiny cheap camera.

I need to stop whining about not having money for an expensive camera, filters, lenses, and just take more pictures. Practice composition with what I already have. I have never really staged a shoot. I’m more of a tourist photographer.

I know it’s cliche but a couple of the staged shoots I want to do are monochrome desert, portrait, and B&D stuff. Last night I was laying in bed with a cold, staring outside when I got an idea and shot it. It’s a composition with the moon and a satellite dish. It was a bit difficult to get a good shot as my cheap digital camera has difficulty with night shots and my tripod is somewhere in storage. I want this idea to be a series that I will continue through with various phases of the moon.
