Coffee Break Spanish  — 1 year ago

Well, since I don’t seem to have the time to sit down and study my book very often, I’m trying a new podcast that my sweetie recommended to me, Coffee Break Spanish. I’ve downloaded the first 10 lessons or so (I think they are up to around 20) but haven’t had a chance to listen to any yet. I’ll post my thoughts when I do.

Found a very cool book at B&N the other day and snapped it up. MOst of teh self taught Spanish books emphasize tourist info. I don’t need to say “how much is a taco?”, I need to say “How tall was the guy who robbed you?”. This book is an excellent resource for that. It has scripts for certain situations too, like a felony traffic stop (“Driver! Throw the keys out of the vehicle!”), DUI field tests (“Raise your right foot at least 6 inches off the ground.”) and the Miranda warning (“You have the right to remain silent…”). Very helpful! I have a new study book for the wee hours of morning watch…

I’m a police officer in a small city with a growing Hispanic/Mexican population. I don’t have a whole lot of time or money so I need to figure out a way to learn Spanish on my own. It’s a critical need at work, almost none of our officers speak Spanish. I think it would also help me get to where I want to go in our department (detectives) because we need detectives who can speak Spanish as well.
